A tribute to the arrival of the whitefish
On the weekend after St. James’ Day, the whitefish traditionally begin their migration up the Torne River to their spawning grounds. The whitefish festival at Kukkolaforsen is a festival with traditions from the Middle Ages. Whitefish are necked the old-fashioned way over an open fire, and the whole area smells of freshly necked and smoked whitefish. The fish is raked from the rapids in the medieval way.
